Cluj’s Christmas Market just opened on December 1st, the National Day of Romania! If you haven’t been there yet or planning to go again, check out here what there is to see and which events to take part in.
It’s the most beautiful time of the year again, almost Christmas. A time full of love and joy, happiness and giving, time for friends and family. Even in Cluj, you can find Christmas at its best: the city center is brightly illuminated and filled with the smells and traditions of Christmas.
The Christmas market in Piata Unirii (Main Square) provides everything that’s needed for the perfect Christmas season: children laughing, people smiling and cheerful evenings. There’s a Christmas tree built up in front of St. Michael’s church that is shining brightly. Additionally, you’ll find nice little, wooden houses all around in Piata Unirii with traditional products, food and Christmas gifts to purchase. You can buy jewelry, accessories, tools made of chocolate, handmade baskets and many more. Have some bavarian sausages with bread at Moldovan or La Casa and some Kürtos or Crepe as a desert afterward. And how about some candy canes or other Christmas sweets to take home?
Right next to those shops and the food you’ll find the ice rink. Put on your ice skates and drive some laps with friends and family!
Daily concerts and Christmas carols sung by groups of local singer schools are taken place at the big stage in Piata Unirii and do surely liven up people and create an appropriate mood to everyone.
For children, there are puppet shows as well as workshops provided. They have the opportunity to relive the traditional eating habits through demonstrations and workshops offered by Moldovan butcher, in restaurant Memo 10 and La Casa. Adults sit by the fireside and tell each other stories or watch the animation and street performances. Meanwhile, enjoy some mulled wine or other hot drinks to warm up yourself.
