According to Eurostat, in 2010 Romania ranked second among the European Union’s countries in terms of trade activities within and outside the EU’s borders, based on the annual growth and ranked fourth in what imports are concerned. Currently, retail and wholesale account for 11% of Romania’s Gross Domestic Product. In Cluj-Napoca, Trade is the most developed sector, with a number of 6389 firms, out of which 3266 are specialized in retail and 3063 in wholesale. Although the majority of the companies do retail, the wholesale companies obtain the higher turnover in trade sector.
